New Mayor in East Rochester

Jason Koon, 30, pulled off an unlikely victory when he beat an incumbent to become the Mayor of East Rochester. Koon won as a Democrat in a traditional Republican stronghold.Koon, the son of New York State Assemblyman David Koon, campaigned on a pledge to make government more accessible. In his first official act he attempted to follow through on that promise by hosting a "Town Hall" type forum.
But scattered among the crowd of well family, friends, and well wishers were several angels... placed on tables in the East Rochester Community Center where Mayor Koon was sworn in.
Angels hold special significance in the Koon family. The figures began arriving at their door shortly after Jason's older sister, Jennifer, was brutally kidnapped, assaulted, and murdered in November 1993.
Like the ones which continue to arrive anonymously at the home of his parents to this day, Mayor Koon wasn't sure where the ones which were present at his swearing in ceremony came from.
"But I'm glad they're here," he said. "It makes me feel like she (Jennifer) is here looking over me and I do believe she is."
