There were more than 150 people cleaning up the City streets Sunday. The Department of Environmental Services tells News 8 it has crews working on a 24-seven basis now. The crews are both city and contract workers.
Crews begin on the main roads and then maintain them on a continual basis. The next step of snow removal moves to the residential and side streets and it becomes tricky when people do not abide by the alternate route parking.
"When you have cars parked on both sides of the street, that always presents a real challenge for us, so I would remember to ask residents to be very mindful of those alternate side regulations, that's what allows us to get those City streets cleaned," says Paul Holahan, Commissioner of Environmental Services for the City of Rochester.
The City of Rochester currently has a 2,000 tons of salt stocked up but believe it or not, the supply will run out fast and the city restocks it on a regular basis.
