P-SHOOTINGSPREEB2007-11-27-1196205685.jpgAn apartment house in Hilton had 10 shots fired into it on Saturday, November 24th, one narrowly missed a woman sleeping. As a result of the holiday weekend incident, the landlord's offering $1000 for any evidence leading to the arrest of the shooter.

“We have no recollection of something like this before. You might get someone out there with a b-b gun who puts some windows out on a car, but never with a firearm,” says Captain Don Bergmann with Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Zone C, “could be a rifle, could be a handgun but we think it's possibly a .22 caliber. Right now we're looking at reckless endangerment and criminal mischief and they could be prosecuted, most likely would be prosecuted.”

Hilton was not the only target in the early morning hours last Saturday. Two cars and a house in Hamlin were peppered with bullets as were a car and house in Clarkson.

“We were looking around for a bullet, because we knew it was a bullet,” says Carol Marshall of Clarkson whose house was hit by several gunshots.

In Marshall’s case, bullets sailed through her guest bedroom where she was napping. Marshall had just gotten up to get a glass of water when the bullet hit her home.

“And I no sooner laid down on that couch and I heard this noise...and it was like popping noises and I couldn't understand what it was,” says Marshall, “I was petrified because I could have been up and gotten right in the way of that bullet and...thank goodness.”

As soon as Carol found the  bullet, she and her husband, Kenneth called police.

“I was amazed. I never thought it would happen to this area in a million years. We've been out in the country for 31 years and nothing like this has ever happened to us.”

Investigators are looking for help from the public. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the Sheriff’s C-Zone office at 753-4175.  While the shootings are all being linked to the same gun, the acts are considered random because the victims have absolutely no connection to one another.
