Busy Black Friday for many stores

Black Friday might want to change its name. Some stores now open on Thursday instead of Friday, and if they don't, many people line up late Thursday for stores that don't open until 6 a.m. the following day.   That could be because more people are participating in the post-Thanksgiving sales.

"A lot of people are pushing around and trying to get the best stuff," said David Deroos, who started out shopping before the sun came up. "It's kind of crazy."

Thousands of people lined up outside of local retailers, including Target, Best Buy and The Marketplace Mall.

"I think more people are getting risky and ready to go out," said Melanie Mayes, a store manager at Target in Henrietta.

"I would definitely say it's a lot busier than last year," said Kara Selke, the marketing director at The Marketplace Mall. I would say a lot of the retailers were more aggressive with their discounts.

And shoppers were more aggressive in their efforts to get the best deals on widescreen television sets, Sony Play Station video games, like Guitar Hero, and other wishlist items. But it comes at a cost, and not just to your bank account.

"The traffic out there is pretty tough," said Barbara Difrancesco.

And inside the stores the congestion continued. That's why some customers strategize days in advance.

"We go through all the ads and we pick out what we want and pick the stores we want to go to," Difrancesco said.

But even after all the planning and the countless hours in line, some say Black Friday just isn't worth it after all, including one shopper who made it to the front fo the line at Best Buy.

"I probably won't be doing it again next year because of how crazy it was!"
