It was a packed house at the village hall in Naples Monday night. Neighbors are upset over a plan by RG&E to build a transmission line through the town. The power company says they need the new line in order to keep up with customer demand. Neighbors have a number of concerns including property values and the environmental impact. The line itself would be on fifty foot poles that would run through Naples and South Bristol. It would require clearing fifty feet of land on each side of the line, that's something many neighbors aren't happy about.
"This is pristine property. We moved down here because we wanted to get away from that and now they're telling us it's going to happen and I don't think that's right,” said Tom Fargnoli who lives in Naples.
"We understand that people have concerns about power lines, we have a problem and we have to try and solve it,” said Bob Bergin with RG&E.
The company is hoping to work with neighbors to find a route that works for the new line. They hope to have it up and operating by the end of next year.
