saturday_doran2007-11-12-1194884045.jpgA local organizaton that gives prisoners a second chance at a new life recognized the achievements of former inmates this weekend. Our own Kevin Doran emceed Saturday night's Cephas Ministry Dinner. Founded in 1972, Cephas is a non-profit organization focused on assistance for men and women on parole. Organizers say without Cephas' help, 60%of former inmates would return to prison. "Cephas has support groups that meet in prison, so we begin working with the people while they're in prison helping them to come to understand the situations in life, take responsibility, begin to make decisions that will change their lives in the future," says Brother Michael Overst. For over 30 years, 70% of the people who complete the Cephas Transitional Program stay out of prison. Here is a link to their website.
