A Rochester teen panicked, according to police, and jumped out of a canoe on an Allegany County lake.  He never made it to shore.

Shumar Rucker, 17, drowned Tuesday afternoon in Rushford Lake, in the town of Caneadea.  Police say Rucker and a 17-year-old friend were canoeing on the lake, when they became frightened by the force of the current near the dam.  Both youths jumped out, but only one made it to shore.

Rucker's body has been taken to the Monroe Co. Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
