Car ends up halfway in pool

A car veered off Parma Center Road in Parma then into a pool Monday morning. Scott Owen and his wife saw this white Cadillac come crashing into their backyard as they sat down to their kitchen table around 8 a.m.

“It sounded kind of like a garbage can rolling down the road, and I looked out the window, and I saw the car airborne go halfway into the pool,” Owen said.

The Cadillac went off the side of the road, hit a sign, then drove about 200 yards through a field before ending up teetering over the edge of the pool.

"He traveled a good distance and missed the house, missed the vehicles and went through a brick wall,” Owen said.

Owen, a lieutenant with the Rochester Fire Department, told his wife to call 911 as he ran out to help the elderly man behind the wheel.

“I shut the car off, made sure the car wasn't going to go into the pool,” he said, “then pulled him out. He was unresponsive and I did CPR on him.

The 72-year-old man was the only one in the car and the only one hurt. He was taken by ambulance to Unity Hospital while police investigated. The car was left hanging over the edge of the pool.

It's unbelievable,” Owen said.
