Pittsford Sutherland Junior Collin Anderson has only had Marni Rabinowitz as an English Teacher since the beginning of the year, but that's long enough for him to know she deserves a Golden Apple Award. "That's all you need to completely recognize who she is and just how much she loves what she does."
So what will Collin's favorite teacher do when we surprise her? "Ms. Rabinowitz is definitely going to freak out. She's very innocent, she's funny she will completely flip."
We snuck down a crowded hallway to her classroom. Collin was right. Marni said she was "Overwhelmed, terrified, surprised and honored."
Those who know Marni Rabinowitz say she loves her students, loves being part of high school life and loves teaching English. Sutherland High School Principal Liz Konar says "Marni Rabinowitz is the quintessential teacher. People leave her classroom everyday waiting to come back for more. Nobody is more deserving of this than Marni."
Ms. Rabinowitz has been a teacher 18 years, 13 at Sutherland. Why does she love coming to school. "Because of these amazing students who make it fun and interesting and unexpected."
How does she feel about Collin asking us to come and say thank you to his great teacher? "It's wonderful. It's such an honor. And I'm trying not to cry. It's lovely, it's really lovely."
Marni Rabinowitz is a News 8 Golden Apple Award Winner. You can read the letter Collin wrote nominating her below.
Dear Channel 8,
Ms. Rabinowitz embodies the perfect English teacher, revered by all her students and heavily respected among the Sutherland faculty.
The amount of effort and extent to which she works towards providing each and every student with an excellent, educational base in American Literature is astounding.
She arrives to class each and every day emitting an unnaturally kind and pleasant demeanor, and it's truly a pleasure to be a part of her class this year.
