School #22 goes into lockdown after shots heard in area

Rochester City School #22 was put into lock-down Tuesday morning after reports of a shooting near the school.

Police blocked off the intersection at Leo and Remington Streets, that's just down the street from School #22.

Several shots were fired in this area and the school was then placed in lockdown.

The only remnants of the shooting were five shell casings in the road near the garbage cans.

Police Chief David Moore says there is no victim and no suspects right now. He arrived on the scene shortly after the shooting was called in by a staff member at the elementary school around 10:20am Tuesday morning.

Those staff members had seen people running towards the school shortly after they heard gunshots. The school was on lockdown for about a half hour.

This shooting comes less than 24 hours after a 17-year-old was shot in the middle of downtown.

The Chief says it takes a lot of guts to do this in broad daylight. The Chief says students at School #22 were not in danger at any point. The suspects did run towards the school but they do not believe it was a target. Police have swept the school to make sure it is safe and at this point the lockdown has been lifted.
