A Florida woman and former resident of Cheektowaga pleaded guilty Monday to lying to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to receive thousands of dollars in rental subsidies.Assistant US Attorney John Rogowski, who handled the case, says 41-year-old Tina Czapla of Jacksonville, FL received rental subsidies through HUD from 2000 through 2004. In the documents she filed to apply for the government benefits, Czapla underreported her income. If Czapla had reported her true income, she would not have qualified for a HUD subsidy.
She improperly received $14,801 from HUD.
Czapla is set to be sentenced in February 2008.
