The Rochester Education Foundation and the "Buddies, Bridges and Brains" Organization spent the day with volunteers working on the "Book and a Blanket" Project at Eastview Mall.

On Saturday, the packages were put together. Organizers say the project promotes literacy and give kids a sense of security.

"We try to provide a blanket and a new book for the neediest of city school district children. We're shooting for 3,000 books and blankets to be delivered," said Cindy Logan, Coordinator.

Students at 11 city schools in all will receive the packages from the "Books and Blankets Project."
