Students in three more schools have come down with the staph infection known as MRSA. High school students have been infected in Spencerport and Albion. Both are expected to recover. In Seneca Falls, an elementary student is sick. The infection is generally spread by skin to skin contact and is resistant to the antibiotic Methacillan. School officials and health experts say keeping open wounds covered along with good personal hygiene can stop the spread of MRSA.
Last week, a student at Northside Elementary School in Fairport came down with MRSA. It was the first reported case in the Rochester area. That student is said to be doing well.
