Yankees senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner says Joe Girardi met extensively with Yankee officials on Monday, and that George Steinbrenner was involved in the meetings.

Girardi managed the Florida Marlins in 2006 and was named National League Manager of the Year.

The "New York Daily News" reports the Yanks have scheduled an interview with bench coach Don Mattingly on Tuesday, and have made an appointment to visit with first base coach Tony Pena on Wednesday.

The Bronx Bombers will likely not decide who will replace Joe Torre until the conclusion of the World Series.

Torre rejected a one-year offer to return to New York last week.
