Barilla's new plant 25 miles south of Rochester will be able to produce up to 100,000 tons of pasta per annum when it reaches full capacity next year. The $75-million facility employs about 120 people in Livingston County.
Barilla is a 130 year old firm based in Parma, Italy. Despite the fact that its products only became available in the US a decade ago, it is the nation's best selling brand of pasta.
Mario Daniele, who owns two popular Italian Restaurants serves Barilla Pasta, and swears by the stuff. "Yes I do," he said. "I believe it's the most popular pasta in Italy, the United States, and in Rochester for that matter."
