The Tops in Penfield is closing in the coming weeks.
But the decision to close the Baytowne Plaza location has nothing to do with the company's sale.
The landlord made a decision to terminate the lease to redevelop the plaza.
There is no indication on what will take Tops' place, but the developer says the new tenant will give Baytowne a shot in the arm.
"We're going to use that as an opportunity to reposition and beautify the plaza, and being that they're right here in the center of the plaza, it gives us an opportunity to set ourselves up for the next 20 years," said John DiMarco, The DiMarco Group.
No exact date has been given to when the Tops will close. The store's 100 employees will be able to transfer to other Tops Markets.
