Financial facts of a college education

P-STUDENTLOANS2007-09-26-1190843691.jpgHigh school seniors headed to college next year got the "bigger" picture of student loans. Wednesday, members of Andrew Cuomo's office stopped by Greece Odyssey to discuss the financial facts of a college education. Chief trial counsel Benjamin Rosenberg told students about their bill of rights.

Recently the state passed legislation that protects students and keeps an eye on the lending industry.  Rosenberg says it's the first legislation of its kind in the nation.

“That protects the students right to get good and clear and unbiased advice from colleges that get preferred lender lists that tell students that these are the loans that we think are best for you. It makes very clear they can seek loans elsewhere. They're not limited to the preferred lender list of any particular school,” explains Rosenberg.

Rosenberg also told students to try exhausting federal funds first before turning to higher cost private loans.
