New Yorks motorists could soon be shelling out more money at the toll booths. The Buffalo News reports the State Thruway Authority is considering statewide toll hikes of up to 20 percent over the next four years under a plan likely to be approved next month. Officials say the increases are needed to offset lower-than-expected toll revenues, attributed to higher gas prices. The plan would also reduce or eliminate discounts for E-ZPass customers. The hikes would come just two years after a 25 percent toll increase enacted in 2005, and on top of a ten-percent hike already planned for next year on cash paying customers.
