wellgonedry2007-09-17-1190069889.jpgUnless you've been under a rock,...or living in an undersea mansion... you've no doubt known this has been one of the driest summers on record in the Rochester area.  But it is only now that the National Weather Service has officially confirmed that some parts of the area are in the midst of a "severe" drought.

Rainfall locally since May 1st has been 6.28 inches, which is less than half the average of 13.6 inches.

While most have noticed their brown lawns (while enjoying fine summer days), the "drought" hasn't been much of a bother. This is particularly true for those on public water systems who enjoy a seemingly  inexhaustible supply of H20.

But for those in outlying areas who depend on wells for water the impact is startling, as their water supply has dwindled and in some cases evaporated entirely despite a summer's worth of conservation measures.
