Tiger Adds New Trophy To Mantle

By: The Sports Network
Updated: September 16, 2007
Tiger Woods closed with a four-under 66 Sunday to cruise to his seventh win of the season at the Tour Championship. Woods completed the event at 23-under-par 257 and also won the inaugural FedEx Cup easily over Steve Stricker. Woods started three of the four playoff events and finished second, first and first. Thanks in part to the soft greens at East Lake, Woods shattered the 36- and 54-hole scoring marks. With his 257 total, Woods also smashed the previous 72- hole scoring mark of 263, which Bart Bryant set in 2005. With his seventh win of the season, Woods is the first player in PGA Tour history to win seven or more times in a single season in four separate years. Woods won his last start at the BMW Championship and hasnt finished outside the top two in his last five starts. That streak includes four wins, including his second straight PGA Championship title. For the season, Woods has a remarkable 10 top-five finishes in 16 starts. Masters champion Zach Johnson, who set a new course record on Saturday when he shot 60, closed with a two-under 68. He ended at 15-under-par 265 and was joined there by Mark Calcavecchia, who stumbled to a one-over 71 in the final round. Sergio Garcia took fourth at 14-under-par 266 after a final-round 70. Stricker, who could have won the FedEx Cup, shot 67 Sunday and ended in a tie for 17th. He took second place in the playoff race as the top four -- Woods, Stricker, Phil Mickelson and Rory Sabbatini -- remained unchanged after the final playoff event.
