Ten months to the day after her death, the community took time to remember Bertina Forde.
Forde, a Monroe County social worker, was struck in a hit-and-run accident in downtown Rochester last November. Social workers, friends, and family gathered in Highland Park, where a tree was dedicated in Forde's honor today. Bertina's father says the community's support has helped him grieve.
"I am truly happy. It has served as a healing process for me, in some way. It has been great," says Lawrence Forde.
As for the woman accused in Bertina Forde's death, Vanessa McKinney is scheduled to be back in court next month. McKinney is charged with leaving the scene of an accident and other traffic violations. Her court date is October 29th.
