Thursday, seven years later, Krispy Kreme in Henrietta, the last one operating in the Rochester area, has closed those doors.

The news comes as a surprise to loyal customers who are shocked at how something which came to town a few years ago would so suddenly pull up stakes.

But it is not surprising to those who watch the financial market.

Krispy Kreme, once the darling of Wall Street, has seen some tough financial times as of late.

In fact, the closure of the store comes days after a less than rosy financial report where the company reported second quarter loses of over 27 million dollars.

All the Krispy Kremes in New York State outside of  New York City are operated by a Buffalo firm, Dynamic Doughnuts.  It tells News 8 the majority of its grocery and convenience store customers will continue to be served without interruption.

"Although sales have been steady, current economy conditions, motivated the effort to consolidate operations to gain production and distribution efficiencies throughout the Western New York area," said Dynamic Doughnuts spokesperson, Chris D'Angelo.
