A grand jury in Seneca County has indicted the Seneca County Sheriff Leo Connolly and four other Sheriff's deputies, two of which are no longer with the department. Also indicted was the former Under Sheriff, James Larson. Sheriff Connolly is being charged with falsifying documents, lying to the grand jury and official misconduct. The former Undersheriff is being charged with grand larceny and official misconduct. The 4 deputies are charged with petit larceny.
The charges stem from a suspicious fire at the former Seneca Army Depot in 2006. Fire ripped through a warehouse there. The building contained important equipment for the sheriff's department including a mobile command center, patrol boat and dozens of patrol cars. Four sheriff's employees were put on administrative leave after the fire. Currently Sheriff Donnolly and two of the deputies charged are still working for the Seneca Sheriff's Department. Everyone involved pleaded not guilty in court Monday to the charges.
