Hjorth among captain's picks for European Solheim Cup squad

Maria Hjorth, a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour, was among the three players selected as captain's picks for the European Solheim Cup team.

The first nine players -- Annika Sorenstam, Suzann Pettersen, Catriona Matthew, Sophie Gustafson, Laura Davies, Gwladys Nocera, Trish Johnson, Bettina Hauert and Becky Brewerton -- were announced Monday.
Hjorth, ranked 41st in the world, won a pair of LPGA Tour events in 1999 and was a Solheim Cup team member in 2002 and 2005. Ranked 20th on the LPGA Tour money list, the Swede recently tied for second at the Women's British Open and finished fourth at the Women's World Match Play Championship.
Tinning also has Solheim Cup experience, having played in the past three events. The Dane is a five-time winner on the Ladies European Tour.
Wessberg, meanwhile, will make her Solheim Cup debut and will be one of three rookies on Alfredsson's team. The 27-year-old Swede is ranked 70th in the world.
