If you thought the problems with the fast ferry sailed away when the ferry left port, you're wrong.
Prominent businessman John Dutch Summers, who owns Jasco Tools, has filed a lawsuit claiming the city's purchase of the ferry was illegal. Summers wants a judge to let taxpayers off the hook of the millions of dollars in ferry related debt.
In response, City Hall says the Johnson administration borrowed 40 million to get the ferry running and the city has to pay it back.
City Communications Director Gary Walker says, "Mayor Duffy is, when it comes to ethics and morals, is pretty old school. He believes if you borrow money, if you spend money, you should pay it back."
The lawsuit was filed in state Supreme Court. Summers was not available for comment.
The City sold the ferry this past April. It still owes 29 million dollars on the loan.
