U of R Professor killed in seaplane accident

The latest word Thursday night is that one of the victims of Thursday's plane crash was a professor at the University of Rochester. The college tells News 8 Now Michael J. Barclay, 50, of Rush, perished in the accident. Barclay was a longtime professor with the Simon School. Dean Mark Zupan says, "Mike was a world-class scholar and a supremely gifted teacher, having been, among other things, rated among the top business school instructors in the world by BusinessWeek. He was also a wonderful human being and friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Laura, and to his family. His warmth, generous spirit, passion for his students and scholarship and able mentoring of junior faculty will be genuinely missed and always treasured in our hearts and memories." Barclay is survived by his wife, Laura Thurner; his parents and his family. A memorial service at the University of Rochester is also being planned.
