Changes coming to Canandaigua VA hospital

The VA will construct a new 120 bed nursing home, a new 50 bed residential rehabilitation facility and a renovated outpatient building. In addition, the Canandaigua VA will be home to a national suicide prevention hot line center. It's partnering with the
"It's different than doing regular outpatient care, it's not like some vet's going to come to this center and say please take care of me, they're going to go to clinics that exist on the Canandaigua campus, which is going to be going to be rebuilt and renovated,” says U of R Psychiatry Department Chair Dr. Eric Caine.
VA officials say that the service is badly needed, pointing to suicide rates among Army soldiers at a 26-year high.
