6 year old stages Art Show to fight rare malady

6 year old Peter Howlett of Brockport was diagnosed at the age of 9 months with Eosinophilic Esophagitis . It's a disorder about which the medical community is largely unaware but may afflict more people than Cystic Fibrosis."EE", as it is sometimes referred to, means Peter's immune system attacks the foods he eats thereby attacking his body internally. As he gets older, it seems, the number of foods he is therefore "allergic" to continues to grow.
Pete was actually researching his affliction on-line when he stumbled across the story of another boy with EE who was selling lemonade in an effort to raise funds for EE research. (there is currently no cure for the illness)
Pete turned to his love of art for inspiration in coming up with the idea of staging an art show, where works of art will be sold in conjunction with the Brockport Arts Festival this coming weekend. He got all the members of his first grade class to submit art work, then the High School Arts club found out and contributed work done by the "Big Kids". Not long after, others who Peter has never met, started sending their work for him to sell. These include the works of some professional artists and photographers. Now, more than 200 pieces of art have arrived at his home since word began to spread.
Peter's Art Show will be held this weekend at the First Presbyterian Church on State Street in Brockport. And though it is arguably the one thing he's looked forward to more than any other in his young life, he's looking forward even more to something else the following weekend.
