Man on a mission

Dick Kron is a man on a mission, whose work is definitely "cut out" for him.The chain saw artist and wood sculptor has been called up once again by the Brockport Fire Department, this time to restore the work he was originally commissioned for 5 years ago.
In 2002, Kron created the centerpieces of Brockport's September 11th Memorial by carving from tree trunks three lifelike figures, representing New York City Firefighters raising the American Flag from the rubble of the World Trade Center.
After a few years exposure to the elements, the figures were found to be rotting in spots. The Brockport Fire Department obtained funds to have the figures re-cast in bronze.
A New Jersey foundry was hired to the work but to complete its task, it had to chop up the original statues. Not wishing to discard Kron's works, the Fire Department re-commissioned Kron to re-assemble and repair the wood statues which will go on permanent display inside Brockport's historic Capen Hose Fire Museum.
Kron plans to keep an ambitious schedule in hopes of re-dedicating his original works on September 11th, the same day the Fire Department hopes to re-dedicate its memorial with the new bronze sculptures cast from Kron's originals.
