CDGAPLAYGROUND2007-08-06-1186439164.jpgIt was like a wake at Canandaigua Elementary School  One by one, children who attend the school and some who simply heard the news walked over to what's left of their playground.

Some wanted to simply make sense of what happened, others wanted to say goodbye.

Firefighters say the fire may have been intentionally set just after 5pm Sunday.

It took only ten minutes for the flames to spread.  They say the rubber and heavy duty plastic burned so quickly, everything but the swings were destroyed.

About 900 students attend Canandaigua Elementary.

The playground was built this way for a reason. The area surrounding the place where firefighters believe it started is crunchy.

Fire investigators are still determining the cause while school district officials are working hard to out in a replacement as soon as possible.
