On a day like today, with near-record high temperatures, your car is going to feel like an oven. The question is...how big a role does the color of your car play? John Stehlin set out today to find an answer to this hot topic.
No doubt our cars are important to us, from style... speed... and of course sticker price!
Let’s face it, we buy our cars cause we look cool in them! Although on hot summer days like these, we raise a question - do darker cars get hotter than lighter colored cars?
“Definitely!”
Rick Ide of Dick Ide Pontiac/Honda in Penfield is totally convinced that color matters when it comes to car heat!
So Rich simply put a thermometer in the light colored G6 and I did the same in the dark colored version. Immediately the temperature started to climb.
So while the test is in progress, we are going to test drive the Solstice. It’s a nice ride but no air conditioning!
Well time is just about up 3, 2, 1 and the answer is.... I got 122 here, what do you have Rich? 121. So it was a bit cooler. Yeah.
Well there wasn’t much of a difference. I would rather have one of these, a remote starter.
John adds that the results may be different if you leave your car in direct sunlight for a longer period of time.
