State Senate Republicans are considering their own investigation into the Governors office and its use of State Police to track Senate Majority leader Joe Brunos travels.
The "New York Post" reported on Monday that Senate Investigations Committee Chairman George Winner may ask Spitzer as soon to appoint State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo as special criminal prosecutor to further look into the matter addressed in an investigative report released by Cuomo last week.
The appointment would give Cuomo full subpoena power, something he did not have during his probe of the State Police surveillance program.
Several Spitzer staffers reportedly withheld information during that investigation.
If Winners request is rejected by Spitzer, the article says Winner will seek a full scale investigation of the scandal through his Investigations Committee, which does possess full subpoena power.
