Several residents along Genesee Street in Geneva say the were awakened by gunfire just after four Sunday morning. “We all came on the balcony and see what's going on and we seen this kid over here laying on the ground,” said Burt Beyers. Police say when they arrived they found 17-year old Elvin Manuel Cruz laying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to Geneva General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Seth Taylor moved to the neighborhood a year and a half ago. He says his street is relatively quiet neighborhood but this morning his Jeep was surrounded by police tape. “Wake up at 7:30 in the morning and there are bullets out on the sidewalk is kind of a concern for you,” said Taylor. Charles Davis who heads one neighborhood watch group say the problem is drugs and too many young people on the streets at night. He’s calling for the city council to pass a curfew. “What’s going on right now in our city and other cities around the area is the old school way of doing things isn’t working,” said Davis. Julia Gurba lives across the street from where the shooting occurred. She agrees that the city needs a curfew. In the meantime she says she’ll keep a close eye and a short leash on her 14-year old son. “My son won’t be out here anymore. I wont let him,” said Gurba. Geneva police say the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and State Police are assisting them in their investigation
