uglyTIE22007-05-16-1179316398.jpgMay 3, 2007—If you’re looking for an event with a unique twist, the St. Joseph’s Villa Ugly Tie Lunch is all that. In its ninth year, The Ugly Tie Lunch has become a popular rite of spring in Rochester by combining food, fun, fashion and friendly competition, all without tying up too much of a busy workday. And at this fundraiser, ugly ties have a chance to come out of the closet and take center stage.

The event takes place from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the Riverside Convention Center. Major sponsors are Home Properties, Inc., Clear Channel Communications, Frontier Communications and The Summit Federal Credit Union. All proceeds benefit St. Joseph’s Villa, a nonprofit agency that cares for kids in crisis.

It works like this: Participants parade by a panel of critical judges, then enjoy a buffet lunch while getting to see who wins the Tiesman Trophy.

This year’s panel of judges includes: Beth Adams (WHAM 1180), John Auberger (Town of Greece Supervisor), Maggie Brooks (Monroe County Executive), Dave Brooks (HSBC), Ann Burr (Frontier), Wendell Castle (local artist), Terry Clifford (WBEE 92.5), Scott Hetsko (News 8 and FOX Meteorologist), Jennifer Johnson (10 NBC), Nancy Jurs (local artist), David Moore (Rochester Police Chief), Scott Pitoniak (Democrat & Chronicle Sports), Bill Pucko (R News Sports), Steven Sauer (Toshiba Business Solutions, NY) and Steve Trotto (Trotto’s Pizzeria, a two-time Tiesman Trophy winner).

Need an idea? Previous winners have included a tie made of pizza, a 1970s “disco-era” tie, a finger-painted tie, a tie depicting the fast ferry and a tie adorned with things found under a couch.

A variety of corporate sponsorship packages are available. Tickets are $40 each or $360 or a table of 10. For more information, contact Linda McFarland at 865-1550.

St. Joseph’s Villa cares for kids in crisis.
Whether the crisis is related to abuse or neglect, mental health issues, substance abuse, the loss of a loved one or other issues, the Villa’s strength-based approach helps kids heal and start again in a positive direction. The nonprofit agency serves about 1,800  kids a year through a network of community programs including residential, educational, preventive and chemical dependency.
