Mother's Day Gifts

Tall Skinny Vase
Make your own small flower arrangement by collecting the following things:
Small wicker baskets
Look at craft stores for tall skinny colored vases, small watering cans,
small decorative pots, containers, also garage sales
For the basket and watering can:
- line with a plastic container or plastic bag, fill with oasis, soak
with warm water
- pick flowering branches and green twigs; forsythia, willow,
honeysuckle
- pick or buy daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, other spring flowers
- cover the oasis with something like ivy, daffodil leaves, ground
cover leaves, houseplant leaves
- Put the willow and other twigs in the center arching out
- Arrange the flowers to fill the basket
For the vase:
Make a small arrangement, a tussie mussie or posy in your hand tapering
it down.
Trim the ends, leaving them long and put in the vase.

How to Dye Wool;
-Make dye by chopping materials in small pieces, add double the amount
of water, simmer for an hour, strain through cheesecloth.
-Wash wool thoroughly in mild soapy water, rinse and dry
- Simmer wool in a Mordant or Fixative for several hours- usually alum,
salt, vinegar, or cream of tartar. Rinse in warm , soapy water.
- Dilute dye in hot water to reach darker than desired color, add wool
and simmer for several hours or until wool is desired color, rinse
thoroughly and hang in the sun to dry.
