If Toronto and Southern Ontario golf fans want to be the best players in the world, they need to be in Rochester this August.

That was the message leadership from the 2013 PGA Championship, the PGA of America and VisitRochester presented in Toronto Thursday while meeting with the Canadian media.

There will not be a major men's golf championship staged closer to the Canadian border than Rochester for the next decade. PGA Championship officials, including championship director Ryan Cannon, wanted to make sure Toronto fans "have a chance to participate."

The VisitRochester members added to the effort by selling Southern Ontario on the many other attractions offered in the Rochester area. The hope is tourists come to Rochester for the golf and stay for something else, maybe even several something else's.

The press conference was followed by a separate reception for dozens of Canadian-based travel writers.

The PGA Championship will take place August 8-11 at Oak Hill Country Club.
