Gates-Chili Rolls Into State Quarters

Cierra Dillard poured in 33 points, including 19 in the first half alone, as Gates-Chili held off Irondequoit in the Class AA state qualifier at Eastridge High School Monday night.
Diona Johnson added 26 points and made four three pointers after halftime. The Spartans led 32-21 at the break, but Irondequoit never really went away. The second half Gates lead held stable between eight and 14 points until the last three minutes of the game.
Savannah Crocetti scored 20 points to lead the Eagles while Jen Reininger had 16. Irondequoit got as close as 25-19 down in the second quarter after a 7-0 run, but Dillard hit a three and then a layup on back-to-back possessions. Gates-Chili held Irondequoit at arm's length from there.
The Spartans will next play on Saturday afternoon at 3pm against the Class AA representative from Buffalo's Section Six. The game will be held at Buffalo State College.
