With Abby Wambach in attendance as the Lancers honorary captain, MISL Leading scorer Doug Miller scored the game winning goal as the Rochester Lancers (10-16) defeated the Milwaukee Wave 9-8 at Christopher J. Wilmot Field at the Blue Cross Arena. With the win, the Lancers keep their playoff hopes alive as they attempt to make the playoffs for the second straight season. Mauricio Salles and Elliot Fauske each had four point games for the Lancers. Gavin McInerney made 15 saves in the win for the Lancers.

Both teams came out conservatively and the first quarter ended in a scoreless tie.

Milwaukee would open the scoring in the second quarter when Nicolas Perera scored less than three minutes into the quarter. Fauske would tie the score when Stephen Basso played a long ball off the end boards and Fauske turned and fired the shot past Milwaukee goalkeeper Nick Vorberg. The teams would go into the halftime interval tied at two.

In the third quarter, Milwaukee would take the lead again when Perera set up Luan Oliveira for the goal. Salles would give the Lancers their first lead of the game when he took a restart and scored from 3-point range. Milwaukee would retake the lead with a restart goal of the their own when Hewerton was set up by Giuliano Oliveiro with only 13 seconds left in the third quarter. The Wave would carry a 6-5 lead into the final quarter.

The Wave would extend their lead early in the final quarter when Ian Bennett struck for the visitors. The Lancers would pull to within a point when Fauske scored off the rebound of a Salles shot. That would set the stage for Miller to play hero. With just under six minutes remaining, Miller took the restart and scored to give the Lancers the 9-8 win.

Rochester now must hope Chicago loses each of their last two games. If that happens, the two teams would finish with identical 10-16 records, but the Lancers have the tiebreaker. Chicago plays Wednesday and Friday.
