East Boys Win 2nd Section V Title In Three Years

East High may have 23 boys Section V titles, but few have had a run like the 2011-2012 team. By beating VIctor 62-47, the Orientals now sit at 20-1 and are champs of Class AA2.
Senior Torrence Dyck led East with 19 points. Right behind him, Chaquan Wilburn dropped 18 points to go along with four steals. Darryl Brown was a monster on the boards with 10 rebounds; he also scored six points. Dimitri Campbell played very well, chipping in ten points and eight rebounds.
East trailed Victor 12-8 after the first quarter, but responded by out-scoring the Blue Devils 54-28 over the final three quarters. Victor senior Mitch Ford led all scorers with 23 points. The Blue Devils season ends with a 8-13 record.
East will play Class AA1 Section V winner Aquinas on Wednesday, March 7 at Gates Chili High School.
