Fresh eggs are one of the toughest foods to get a hold of for donations. With Easter just over a week away, Foodlink is receiving a huge donation!

Eggs, eggs and more eggs. Kreher's Egg Farm helping in the fight against hunger.

"It is amazing. It's one of our values. We're a family farm," said Jeannette Kreher.

More than 36,000 eggs made their way to Foodlink Thursday morning. It's a prized item and a unique donation for food banks.

"Eggs are the perfect protein. They're very nutritious. They give you a feeling of staying full longer so it's a wonderful food source," said Kreher.

And a lot of hungry stomachs will be full thanks to this donation to Foodlink. Pallets of fresh eggs unloaded into the food bank warehouse. Their next stop; to families in need.

"36,000 eggs is a lot but we go through quite a bit. We distribute close to 16 million pounds this year. That's what we will be doing, so this is going to go really fast but it's a good quantity and the protein is what's really needed in the food bank," said Matthew Knaub, Foodlink Director of Operations.

"We love to help out other families. We have a lot of family people who work for us so it's just wonderful to be able to give back to those who are either in our communities or know somebody in our communities that might need a little assistance during this time," said Kreher.

This year alone, U.S. farmers will donate nearly nine million eggs to Foodlink. This is the sixth season, the United Egg Producers have organized this nationwide effort to help families in need.
