The Greece woman accused of buying the guns used in the Christmas Eve shooting in Webster was in federal court Monday morning.

Dawn Nguyen, 24, arrived with her attorney, Matt Parrinello at the federal courthouse shortly before 9 a.m. In court she spke only to plead not guilty and acknowledge the terms of her release. The federal indictment alleges she knowingly lied about buying a Bushmaster 223 and 12-guage shotgun for William Spengler. Each count carries a 10-year maximum sentence and a $250,000 fine. West Webster Fire District board chairman Thomas Link and two members of the Webster Fire Department listened intently during the proceeding. Afterward, Parrinello addressed his client's ability to receive a fair trial in this community and the possibility of asking for a change of venue.

"I'm sure that's probably down the line.  We will have to do our research and see if it's appropriate, but I would probably say, and I think everyone would agree, it would be very difficult to get a fair trial here," Parrinello said.

"We're looking forward to seeing this prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  We've got all the faith in the U.S. District Court to do just that," Link said.

Defense motions will be filed in early May. Nguyen's next court appearance is set for May 23rd.
