This weekend supporters of Patrick Place may finally reach their financial goal.

Since 2008, they've been raising money to transform the old rectory at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Scottsville into a comfort care home.

"This rectory is over a hundred years old so it's very prominent in this town for sure," said Patrick Place Board of Directors Vice Chair Jacqueline Coates.

St. Mary of the Assumption and two other churches have clustered to create a joint ministry - Patrick Place.  The planned comfort care home will provide love and support for the terminally ill in a home-like setting.  "They would come here if they can't be at home and stay here, and our volunteer caregivers would help to care for them 24/7 and help care for the families as well," said Coates.

Patrick Place will fill a need in the Scottsville community.  The next closest comfort care facility is over 10 miles away.  When renovations are complete there will be two suites for residents and their families, as well as a full kitchen and living room.

Supporters have raised $150,000 of the $175,000 needed to renovate the rectory.  The annual Patrick Place dinner and auction -- An Evening for Patrick Place -- is set for Saturday from 6 - 11 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel, Airport on Jefferson Road in Rochester.

Patrick Place Board of Directors member Neil Campbell believes a good night of fundraising could put the project over the top and green light the next phase.  "Support is building and we are very excited about what that means for our ability to open as soon as possible," he said.

Campbell believes without setbacks, construction could begin by summer, with Patrick Place open to families by the end of the year.  "With Patrick Place being available in the very near future, that's going to help people be a little bit more comfortable in their time of need," he said.
