NYS Assembly Votes To Up Minimum Wage

The State Assembly has passed a bill to raise minimum wage.

It passed by a vote of 101-44 after four hours of debate. The bill would raise the rate from $7.25 to $9. That matches the proposal President Obama made in his State of The Union address. It would take effect on January 1st of next year. The bill is not expected to pass in the Senate.
