Ajia Mcintyre scored 14 points and Christian Leonardo added 12 as (5)Athena held off a game (9)Victor team with a 52-44 win in the Class AA2 semifinals Tuesday night at Pittsford Mendon High School.
Alex Gelinas led all scorers with 15 points for the Blue Devils.
Victor stunned top seeded Hilton in the quarterfinals. They never went away against the Trojans, but also never trailed by less than nine points in the fourth quarter of an agonizingly long and dull game. Athena did not make a field goal over the final ten-plus minutes.
Athena will face (2)Irondequoit in the championship game Friday at Roberts Wesleyan. The Eagles nipped (3)Mercy 52-51 when a three-pointer by the Monarchs with four seconds left ended up really being a two. The Monarchs didn't find out until after the buzzer.
