Aquinas Rallies to Top Pittsford for 7th Straight Title

Moving up a classification always presents new challenges for teams, regardless of the sport. Aquinas football met those head on and now find themselves in the Class AA state tournament thanks to their 15-14 win over Pittsford at Sahlen's Stadium.

For the Irish, it's their seventh straight sectional title, but the first in Class AA. The previous six were all won in Class A.

Aquinas running back Billy Lombardi racked up 102 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 33 carries, including the game winner with 4:27 remaining.

Things were looking dire for Aquinas in the first half. Pittsford ended the first quarter with a 10 play. 58 yard drive that culminated in a Nick Barclay touchdown. Early in tyhe second quarter, Pittsford doubled their lead thank to linebacker Nick Kroll's second interception which is he returned for a touchdown.

Aquinas trailed 14-3 entering the fourth quarter before Lombardi's two touchdowns. The Little Irish will take on Orchard Park of Section 6 at All High Stadium in Buffalo on Saturday, November 10th at 6:00.
