Top-seeded Syracuse announced Tuesday afternoon that sophomore center Fab Melo will miss the NCAA tournament due to an eligibility issue. The university did not comment further, except to say he did not travel with the team to Pittsburgh for the team's Round of 64 game against No. 16 UNC-Asheville.Syracuse has not yet decided, but it's expected either sophomre Baye Keita or freshman Rakeem Christmas will start for the Asheville game.

Melo had been suspended earlier this season for other eligibility issues, missing three games - including one of Syracuse's two losses, to Notre Dame. He returned on February 4 against St. John's.

Melo, a 7-foot native of Brazil, averaged 7.8 points and 5.8 rebounds this season.  Thad Brown will have reports from Pittsburgh beginning Wednesday on News 8 and Fox First at Ten.
