Reported by: Jason Frazer Friday, Oct 16, 2009 @06:23pm EDT "Comic books if you look at them there having more and more influence on popular culture. If you look at the movies that come out recently, the video games that have come out, comic book characters are in them," says Jon-Paul Dyson of the Strong National Museum of Play.
And thats one of the reasons behind the new American Comic Book Heroes exhibit. Here in this ultimate battle between good versus evil are seven decades of superheroes and comic books. "its a hands on interactive exhibit that explores the history of superheroes where they came from and how the fill our popular culture and kids play," says Dyson. Superman, Batman, Ironman and even the Incredible Hulk make a visit. Its all in appreciation of what comic books can do. "Comic books are a great way to encourage kids to read as well. Kids who maybe wont pick up another book will pick up a comic book," says Dyson. The exhibit even allows you to become a superhero. You can even get a cape and get natural human powers that allow you to lift heavy objects. For the kids, even if you want to scale buildings in Rochester you can. The museum says its a continuation of its mission in showing us how play can affect things in our everyday lives. "The material is so rich, the activities are so fun that kids of all ages including adults will have alot of fun here," says Dyson. The official grand opening is Saturday. There will be a special guest. Spiderman. |
