Reported by: Thad Brown Monday, Nov 2, 2009 @12:30am EST Schroeder couldn't beat Rush-Henrietta in Webster.
In downtown Rochester, things worked out just fine. The Warriors piled up 200 yards rushing and slowed down R-H just enough to pull the upset 24-19 in a Class AA semifinal Sunday at Rochester Rhinos Stadium. Nick DiMartino, Pete Noto and Matt Bellucco scored touchdowns for Schroeder to go with what turned out to be a key 36 yard field goal from Mike DeBole. Ashton Broyld threw three touchdown passes for Rush-Henrietta, but took two sacks, including one on his own four yard line that ended with a fumble and a Warrior recovery. Schroeder scored the first points of the game two plays later and added DeBole's field goal to take a 10-0 lead to the half. Broyld hit Nick Clarke for the Royal Comets' first touchdown in the third. However, the Warriors answered with a 92-yard drive, including multiple third and long conversions, capped by Bellucco's one yard TD run. R-H got within five at 17-12 on Broyld's 9-yard scoring pass to Justin Medley in the fourth quarter. The Comets got a stop, but did nothing with a possession that began inside their own 20. Rush-Henrietta went for a first down on 4th and 11, completing a pass for only six yards. DiMartino scored three plays later to give Schroeder a seemingly insurmountable 24-12 lead with two minutes to go. Broyld put a scare in the Warriors with a 54 yard scoring strike to Clarke, but Chris Tompkins recovered R-H's onside attempt and Schroeder had their revenge. Webster gets their old rivals from Gates-Chili in the AA Final Saturday. |
