To say Ginny Dodge is unique would be an understatement.   Rarely do high school students qualify for conference all state in three separate instruments - but Ginny did.

She wowed the judges with the oboe, the English horn, and vocals - but it's the oboe that's closest to her musical heart.

"There's solo pieces out there, and just the sound when played well, it seems like the most optimal instrument for any musician," said Ginny.

At Livonia High School, it's not unusual for Ginny and other dedicated musicians to get together on their own time to play.

"It's just a group of us having some fun and playing some extra music on the side," said Ginny, a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.  She recently outperformed students in a 12 state competition.

"Her resume is amazing," said Robert Leader, the director of high school bands.  "In my 37 years here, she's arguably the best musician we've ever had - and she does everything."

Ginny will study music performance in college. Her dream is to play in an orchestra, and have her own teaching studio.

"I would love to be the principal oboist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, but I don't know - that's way up there" said Ginny, who does everything for the love of playing, an oboest committed to each musical moment.
