Reported by: WROC-TV Thursday, May 7, 2009 @06:16pm EDT A It's an achievement for any school, but especially for the students here at True North Rochester Prep. We were there as their principal surprised them with their their test scores. "They have been working so diligently and so hard and at the end of the year to get this type of result...the thing they've been waiting for...we haven't actually told them yet," said principal Stacey Shells. So we tagged along to surprise these 7th graders. It was clear they had been waiting for these test results. "The 7th graders at Rochester Prep have earned and achieved 100 percent!!!" Rochester Prep was number one in "Our kids come with a different set of challenges and they are coming in the door sometimes academically at a level where the challenge of closing the achievement gap is greater," says Shells. There's no doubt they put in the work. Their school day begins at 7:40 in the morning and ends at 4:45. A lot of hard work that has paid off. Shells is quick to point out that the work is not over. They are now focusing on writing, speech and vocabulary and they are still awaiting their state scores on math. There are 55 students in the seventh grade at Rochester Prep. The school has grades 5 through 7 and will expand to 8th grade next year. |
